The genetic causes of 60% of cases of epilepsy, brain malformations, mental retardation or autism are currently known.

Genetic diagnosis of these diseases may benefit patients with symptoms of brain and nervous system diseases such as paraplegia, Alzheimer, strokes, migraine, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson and epilepsy. In addition, since many of these diseases appear very late, a genetic test allows diagnosis before symptoms appear and thus be able to start preventive measures in advance.

Types of neurological genetic tests

1. STUDY OF TARGET GENES

In cases where the specific gene to be evaluated is known, a gene can be studied by looking for variants that confirm/rule out presence of a genetic disease.

2. NEUROLOGY PANELS

Study of a set of genes related to a neurological disease which diagnosis is suspected and wants to be confirmed.

3. EXOME

Complete study of all genes that produce proteins in search of a variant responsible for the patient’s symptoms.
